Steele Group Architects was asked to design and renovate a two-story, 8,400 sq. ft. existing building to create Veterans Helping Veterans Heal, a transitional housing and rehabilitation services facility for veterans. The newly designed facility includes a classroom, dining space, office and administrative spaces, a living room and other basic residential services. With both private and dorm-style sleeping quarters for up to 30 people.
We worked closely with consultants to provide a building that is both energy and cost conscious and that helps to minimize operating expenses for our client. Veterans Helping Veterans Heal is part of Winston-Salem’s long-term plan to end chronic homelessness. Primary funding sources were a grant from the Veterans Administration and funds provided by the United Way.
