When Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary, NC, saw the opportunity to expand, they hired Steele Group Architects to help them double the size of their campus. Steele Group worked with members of the Glenaire board of directors, staff, and residents to create a master plan for the expansion of the campus as it moves into the future.
The challenge of master planning the expansion was to create a unified, vibrant and cohesive community. To do that Steele Group Architects studied the amenities that were offered on the existing campus, supplementing them with new amenities in the expansion. Some of the amenities on the existing campus were renovated to bring them up to par with the planned expansion. The ratios of Healthcare to Independent Living units were studied to ensure that the continuum of care for the residents could continue to be supported and the staff was consulted to learn how to best operate the new facilities. The result was a comprehensive approach that allowed the entire community to feel like one, cohesive, welcoming campus.
